Yes.  With my client's permission I will attend a prenatal visit to acquaint myself with the OB/midwife.  I also will attend a tour of the birth center/hospital, time allowing.

Emotional, mental, and physical support is still necessary with or without meds and with vaginal or cesarean births.  Tidying the room, offering water, providing comfort measures, aiding to the restroom, being present while her partner rests or leaves for a break are all ways to support laboring and postpartum moms.

Partners decide how much they want to be involved and I follow their lead, as well as the laboring mother's.  I offer training, both to mom and her partner, prior to labor so that the partners can go in feeling confident that they are able to provide comfort measures for mom.

I am currently taking 2 clients per month.

I will be on-call from 38 weeks gestation until the delivery of the baby.  If I cannot make it, my backup doula will take my place until the birth or I can attend.  If my backup doula is unable to make it, any payments made by the client will be reimbursed.
